# Instagram Stories or Snapchat?

On August 2, [Instagram](http://blog.instagram.com/?ref=ghost.luxbp.com) took a page out of Snapchat’s book with its [launch of Stories](http://blog.instagram.com/post/148348940287/160802-stories?ref=ghost.luxbp.com). Like [Snapchat](https://www.snapchat.com/?ref=ghost.luxbp.com), photos and videos added to a story on Instagram disappear after 24 hours and only appear if someone else chooses to watch them. With Instagram’s huge built-in user base, this launch has brought up a lot of questions about where we in the industry should be focusing to promote our work and ourselves.
